Literature Text

You managed to catch up to him just as the cab pulled up to the curb. You dove in right before he pulled the door closed behind you. He instructed the driver to take you to Scotland Yard and you were off. You were about to ask why you were going there, but he held up a hand to stop you the second he saw your mouth start to open. You clamped your mouth shut again, and he smirked.

“That never works on John. It’s nice.” You didn’t reply and you could tell his mind had been transported to somewhere far away from this cab, and the streets of London. You sat back and just relaxed the rest of the ride. You looked out the window and took in what you could of the sights as they zoomed by in a blur. As far as you could tell, they were beautiful blurs. The cab stopped, Sherlock paid, and you followed him out of the cab and through the front doors of the station.

“What are we doing, Sherlock? Didn’t we already talk to that Lestrade guy?” Sherlock looked over at you as you continued to make his was to the inspectors office.

“I’m going to see if he can trace where that text came from, but it is unlikely. Moriarty is much too clever to make that mistake. Either way, he was annoying the other day. I need to pickpocket him.“ You smiled. Oh, yes. You liked Sherlock. He caused just enough havoc to keep things interesting, but not enough to hurt anyone. You were sure Lestrade was going to have to fill out a ton of paperwork because of him though.  You were way too excited about this. From what you remembered of the layout, you were almost to Lestrades office when you were stopped by the incredibly curly haired woman, Donovan.

“Watch out everyone! The freak and his new pet are here!” Sherlock didn’t blink.

At least, not until you reached across and punched her. When she regained her balance enough to look at you, you saw a stream of blood coming from her nose, and it looked the tiniest bit more crooked than it had a second ago. She was visibly seething, and it filled you with joy. It was about time someone stood up to her. You doubt John wouldn’t have done it. Sherlock probably told him not to at one point or another, but you were under no such restrictions. You didn’t even care that you’d probably get jail time for assaulting a police officer. You stood there with a very smug smirk on your face before Sherlock grabbed your upper arm and literally drug you into Lestrade’s office. By the time you got there, a small group of her piers had surrounded Donovan. You’d never say it out loud, but you were proud. Sherlock shoved you through the door, you turned around and looked her dead in the eye from across the room.

“I’m here now, princess! Calling Sherlock a freak isn’t going to fly anymore!”You craned your head around the office, all varying forms of disbelief on everyone’s faces. “That goes for all of you!” The crowd disappeared behind the door as Sherlock shut it behind you. Lestrade stood from his chair looking concerned.

“What happened?” You turned to him, a malicious smirk planted firm on your lips.

“I pun-“ Sherlock’s hand wrapped around your mouth. It turns out that you didn’t need to say anything as the woman burst into the room, hand and tissue pressed to her nose, and pointing an accusing finger at you. You felt Sherlock shuffle closer to you, his chest now brushing your back and his hand still clamped over your mouth.

“She punched me!” She screeched. You smiled behind Sherlock’s hand. Her voice was nasally and it sound hilarious. It only added to the pride you felt. Lestrade looked over at you, disbelief painting his features. He nodded at Donovan.

“Alright Sally. Go get that looked at. Have Anderson drive you to the hospital. I’ll take care of this.” She left, looking over her shoulder giving you the same dagger glare you felt like she always saved for Sherlock. That felt like an honor in itself. The detective inspector came to lean on the front of his desk, arms crossed. He looked at you coolly, and Sherlock dropped his hand and stepped away. “So what happened?” You took a step forward, and dropped your gaze to the floor.

“She called Sherlock a freak, so I punched her.” Your heart sped up for a moment when you watched as his feet came closer. You just knew he was going to arrest you. It caught you completely off guard when he threw his arms around you and squeezed you tight. It was a good, solid hug that lasted for about fifteen seconds. You stood there, patting his back awkwardly, not sure what else to do. When he pulled away, he was grinning from ear to ear.

“I’ve been wanting to do that for a while, but they have rules about hitting your co-workers. We actually had a seminar about it last month. Thank you.” He placed his hands on your shoulders.

“So you’re not going to arrest me for assaulting an officer?” He laughed.

“Of course not! I’d give you a plaque and throw you a parade if I could!” Your smile widened.

“Thank you, Inspector Lestrade. I really wouldn’t do well in prison.” He walked back over to his chair and took a seat, still smiling.

“Please, call me Greg.” You snapped your fingers and pointed at him in an ‘Aha! I knew it!’ moment, which earned you an odd look from him. You pulled out your phone and corrected the entry where Lestrade’s name belonged. Now it said Greg instead of Geoffrey. It didn’t take long for him to figure it out. “He put the wrong name in your phone, didn’t he?” You just pursed your lips in response to his question, and he gave an unamused look at Sherlock who paid it no mind. “So what can I do for you?” You looked over at Sherlock and smirked.

“Well. I got a text from Moriarty, and I was hoping you could track it, but Sherlock pretty much said there’s no point. Then he was planning to pickpocket you, but I don’t think he will now that you won’t be hauling me off to jail. Isn’t that right, Sherlock?” You Heard him let out a grunt and you smiled at Lestrade. “But there is the matter of how I’m going to get out of here. I’m pretty sure everyone passed those doors is going to be calling for blood. Specifically, mine.” A mischievous grin planted itself on the inspectors lips before he told you his plan.

It was only a few seconds after later that he had you “pinned” to the wall outside his office, and you were pretending to wince as he put the handcuffs on “too tight”. Technically, not all the wincing was fake. Your knuckles were pretty sore and slightly swollen from punching Sally Donovan earlier, and you felt it every time he accidentally brushed them. Between lines of reading your rights, he had leaned in and instructed you to get ice on that in a hushed tone only you could hear. Everyone stared as he marched you out of the office telling you how much trouble you were in and that he hoped you didn’t make it out of prison. Both you and Sherlock had to try not to laugh. You put on the best frightened face you could muster as you begged him not to take you in. He responded by planting a hand firm on the back of your head to keep you from turning around anymore. You knew the gesture looked much harsher than it really was.

All the way out onto the street, Lestrade kept you in the handcuffs which you could have easily slipped out of the entire time, and Sherlock walked beside the two of you, his long fingered hands clasped tightly behind his back. Greg placed both you and Sherlock into the back of the police car, which he drove all the way back to Baker Street.  You sat in the backseat with Sherlock, all of you laughing as you slipped your wrists out of the silver cuffs with ease. The car stopped, and Greg got out to open the back door so you and Sherlock could climb out. You gave Lestrade a pat on the arm for his brilliant acting skills, and he gave you the assurance that you most definitely never go to jail for this.
I don't own Sherlock or any of the other characters.

I've been wanting someone to punch Sally Donovan for calling a Sherlock a freak for forever. Sorry, not sorry. Loki lol smile
